Genesis
Genesis is the first book of the Bible. The book starts with the big origin stories, including the creation of the world, the fall into sin, the flood, and the tower of Babel. Then Genesis focuses on Abraham and his family. As you read, one thing to consider is God's covenant relationship with his people. How does God's relationship with his people develop over Genesis?

Day 90

Saul Becomes Desperate

Read: 1 Samuel 26-28

Sinners have short memories. A little time before this, Saul realized he had been wrong in pursuing David and had stopped doing so. But now he is back at it again. And again David has the opportunity to kill him and refrains because Saul is “the Lord’s anointed” (26:11). When Saul learns of David’s mercy, he again acknowledges he is wrong and goes back home. We are all quick to forget the lessons we learn.

Saul had started out well when he was first king. One thing he had done was to remove the mediums and necromancers from the land. But now he feels abandoned because Samuel is dead and God refuses to communicate with him. He looks for a medium who he thinks may be able to contact Samuel for him. He finally finds such a witch at Endor. When she seeks to call Samuel up from the dead, she is evidently surprised herself when Samuel appears. On other occasions, she had probably deceived those who came to her to serve as a medium, but now God apparently lets Samuel return to confront Saul. But Saul finds no consolation from Samuel who predicts tragic death for him and his sons.

We all need a source of supernatural guidance. Sad to say many today seek such guidance from horoscopes and fortunetellers. Let us study the Scriptures diligently that we might obey what God commands and ask mature Christians for help and wisdom in those areas not covered by divine command.

PRAYER
Father, help us to make the right decisions based on the commands and principles found in your Word. For Jesus’ sake. Amen.
