Genesis
Genesis is the first book of the Bible. The book starts with the big origin stories, including the creation of the world, the fall into sin, the flood, and the tower of Babel. Then Genesis focuses on Abraham and his family. As you read, one thing to consider is God's covenant relationship with his people. How does God's relationship with his people develop over Genesis?

Day 175

From Danger to Victory

Read: Psalms 59-65

Psalm 59, apparently written after David became king, looks back at that episode when he had to slip out of a window to avoid being captured by his enemy, Saul. He had been in danger, but now he was enjoying victory, which was only because of God’s blessings. Look back and see God’s merciful hand at work in your life. Give him the praise.

The background of Psalm 60 was this: David and his troops were in the north when an enemy attacked the land from the south. The psalm begins with David’s feelings of sadness at hearing this news, but ends with the assurance that God will help him solve this problem too.

In Psalm 61, David is again pleading for God’s help. Being assured of that help, he promises to praise God every day. The God of David is alive today. He will help us. Let us express our gratitude daily.

Psalm 62 shows us how difficulties driving us to God can end in enriching our lives as we learn to trust him for everything. Psalm 63 shows how God was ever central in the thoughts of David. He should have that same place in our lives. Psalm 63 focuses on God with the enemy in the background, but Psalm 64 focuses on the enemy with God in the background. Psalm 65 is a psalm of thanksgiving because God has provided a bountiful harvest.

PRAYER
Father, be with us in our struggles and give us assurance that by grace victory will come. In Christ. Amen.
