Genesis
Genesis is the first book of the Bible. The book starts with the big origin stories, including the creation of the world, the fall into sin, the flood, and the tower of Babel. Then Genesis focuses on Abraham and his family. As you read, one thing to consider is God's covenant relationship with his people. How does God's relationship with his people develop over Genesis?

Day 29

Complete Obedience

Read: Exodus 38-40

Did you notice how the words “as the LORD had commanded Moses” are repeated over and over and over again in this passage of Scripture? God had given a detailed description of how the tabernacle and its furnishings were to be made. He had commanded that they produce these articles exactly as he had said. They had done so. In his Word, he has also given a description of what we ought to do.

God has given us many commandments also, not only in the Ten Commandments, but in describing for us the qualities that are to characterize and fill the Christian life. Having been saved by grace alone, we are called to obey God in all we do. Such obedience leads to great blessing. Carelessness regarding obedience means we will miss many blessings God is ready to give us.

Having been made in obedience to the command of God, the articles of the tabernacle were consecrated to their purpose by anointing. The English word anointed is connected to the Hebrew word for Messiah, which in Greek is Christ. All Old Testament symbolism finds its fulfillment in Christ. He is the One anointed to be our prophet, priest, and king. To be a Christian is to share in that anointing, and therefore we each have a prophetic, a priestly, and a royal task to do.

PRAYER
Father, give us the grace to be completely obedient to all you have told us to be and to do. In Christ’s name. Amen.
