Day 22

When You Have Your Hands Full

Read: Exodus 17-19

Moses had more than his share of problems. Notice how he handled them. When the people complained, Moses cried to the Lord. When you have a problem, “take it to the Lord in prayer.” When people cause you difficulties, look to the Lord and ask him for wisdom.

Now comes the attack of the Amalekites. Here the answer is a combination of prayer and the help of others. As long as Moses holds his hands up to God, Israel prevails. But his hands grow weary, so others hold them up for him. Let us be ready to work cooperatively with others in the work of the Lord.

There is the task of administration, of dealing with the problems that arise when people live together in a community. Here the answer is to take the advice of someone who can look objectively at your problem and also to be willing to delegate responsibility. We must not think we are the only ones able to do something. God provides people with a variety of gifts so that the household of faith may function effectively.

Finally, we must learn how to give clear instructions, as Moses did when the people approached holy Mount Sinai. Clear communication is essential to prevent misunderstandings, which can do so much damage.

PRAYER
Father, as we are beset with a host of problems, give us wisdom from on high to deal with each one in a way that will honor your name. For Jesus’ sake. Amen.
