Genesis
Genesis is the first book of the Bible. The book starts with the big origin stories, including the creation of the world, the fall into sin, the flood, and the tower of Babel. Then Genesis focuses on Abraham and his family. As you read, one thing to consider is God's covenant relationship with his people. How does God's relationship with his people develop over Genesis?

Day 312

Meet Jesus

Read: John 3-4

Two very different people meet Jesus, one a scholarly Pharisee, the other an immoral woman. Both testify to the greatness of Jesus. May we also meet him and realize his greatness.

The Pharisee Nicodemus comes at night since he doesn’t want anyone to see him. Jesus proclaims to him the necessity of the new birth. The Spirit must work in our hearts causing us who are by nature spiritually dead to become spiritually alive. If there is evidence that you are born again, that you have faith which is beginning to produce fruit, it is because of a miracle produced in your heart by the Spirit. It is all of grace, so be filled with gratitude. Jesus speaks to Nicodemus the words of what many consider to be the greatest verse in the Bible: John 3:16.

The interview of Jesus with the woman at the well teaches us how to evangelize. Jesus arouses her curiosity so that she will listen by offering water which will cause her never to thirst again. He brings her under conviction of sin by asking about her husband when in fact she had had five and now was living with a man who was not her husband. When she tries to change the subject, he refocuses the conversation. Finally, he announces that he is the Messiah (Christ). She goes back to her village and many believed because of her testimony, and over a couple of days many more listen to Jesus, testifying, “This is indeed the Savior of the world.”

PRAYER
Father, we praise you for the greatness of your love which gave us your Son to be our Savior. In his name. Amen.
