Light Dwells with God

Read: Daniel 2:17-30

He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. (v. 22)

So much of life is about perspective. For example, at 30,000 feet in the air, the patchwork quilt of earth below holds its secrets while you gain perspective on clouds and jet streams.

Even though our perspective changes, sometimes moment by moment, we can never see all of the puzzle of life. We have one set of eyes with which to consider our viewpoint or take in another’s. But God, we learn from Scripture, is all-seeing. In Ezekiel’s vision, the cherubim of God have eyes all over them (Ezekiel 10), and in Revelation 4, the four living creatures that surround the throne and never cease to say “Holy, holy, holy” have eyes all around and within. Hebrews 4:13 teaches that “no creature is hidden from [God’s] sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”

Part of the beauty of Daniel’s story is catching a glimpse of a God who sees everything, but occasionally pulls back the curtains to reveal deep and hidden things to God-fearing men and women who seek wisdom. There is much darkness around us, just as there was around Daniel, but God knows what is in the darkness—the light dwells with him. In a moment, God can expose whatever is hidden from our perspective. —Amy Clemens

As you pray, consider the God who dwells in light, exposing what is hidden, and glorify God all-seeing.
