A New Beginning for the Kuku Community
We’re celebrating something truly special—a brand-new Kuku-speaking church has been planted at the Bethesda Center in Mukono, Uganda! This is more than just a building or a service. It’s a long-awaited answer to prayer and a powerful sign of unity, healing, and hope for the Kuku people.
Many Kuku speakers living in Uganda had been faithfully attending Freedom Conferences hosted by Words of Hope, but they faced a difficult barrier—language. While they longed for spiritual community, most local churches worshiped in languages they didn’t fully understand. But now, for the first time, Kuku believers from many different backgrounds—Anglican, Catholic, Baptist, and Pentecostal—are worshiping together in their heart language.
Even more exciting? Over 200 Kuku-speaking youth and teens are already part of this growing congregation! A youth service is in the works to help them build faith and find belonging. The church is quickly becoming a spiritual home where people can pray, sing, read Scripture, and grow—all in Kuku.
The Journey Behind This Moment
This incredible milestone didn’t happen overnight.
Until 2006, the Kuku people had never heard their language spoken on the radio. That changed when Words of Hope donors stepped in to launch gospel broadcasts in the Kuku heart language. These programs introduced many Kuku listeners to the hope of Jesus for the very first time.
The Kuku people—originally from the border regions of Uganda and South Sudan—have faced deep hardship. For years, they were marginalized and displaced. They were denied education, lost land, and were scattered by conflict. But through it all, they held on to hope.
This new church is an answer to that hope. It’s a place where the Kuku people can worship freely, grow spiritually, and experience unity through Christ in a language that speaks to their hearts.
Thank You for Making This Possible
None of this would be happening without your prayers, generosity, and faithfulness. From radio broadcasts to Bible translation to this new church plant, you are helping create a movement of transformation among the Kuku people.
Please continue to pray for the new church, for the youth who are finding faith, and for the team working hard on translating God’s Word into Kuku.
And if you feel led to support this ongoing work, we’d love for you to be part of what God is doing through Words of Hope.
Together, we’re witnessing God build his church—one language, one heart, one life at a time.
