The Challenges of Faith in Kosovo

“The [Words of Hope] devotionals are a source of tranquility that help us face the daily challenges with more of our blessed hope,” says a Christian of Albanian descent.

Kosovo, a European country inhabited largely by ethnic Albanians, boasts a predominantly Muslim population. There is a deep spiritual hunger in the hearts of many people living in these countries, but the name of Jesus is rarely spoken. Words of Hope’s indigenous leaders in Kosovo and Albania share the gospel in meaningful ways—through daily devotionals, radio broadcasts, and discipleship programs. And through it all, the good news is spreading.

Our friend’s own story is very indicative of the Holy Spirit’s move in these countries. He was the manager of a local recycling company, and at first, life was very good. The company he worked for began to hire new workers with different values and small, initial tensions gradually escalated into serious issues, and even threats.

Around this time, he and his wife started reading the Words of Hope devotionals everyday. “This habit brought a lot of peace and blessings to our life,” he said, “This moment had become a common part of our day. An instant when we stopped from our fast paced lives to reflect, to find inspiration and to strengthen our spirits.”

Through this daily discipline of studying the Bible, he found clarity and decided to take a huge leap of faith: he would leave his wife and children back in his home country to start fresh somewhere else. “This was not an easy decision,” he admitted. “But I feel it was the best solution to secure a more sustainable and safer future for myself and my family.”

Hope for the Future

Today, he continues to work and pray and build on that foundation in the hopes that one day he might be able to bring his family to join him there.

The gospel is spreading in Albania and Kosovo. Our friend’s story closely mirrors many others in these countries. As people try to navigate living in a Muslim nation and the conflicts at work that stem from their differing beliefs, many are turning to Words of Hope and the true, animating story of the gospel.

But this work is only possible because of people like you. Your prayers and gifts equip local believers to share the good news in their communities through video, audio programming, social media, and more.

When you give, you stand alongside our local leaders in Albania and Kosovo. You may never see their faces, but God is using your influence to open hearts to the gospel and grow churches.
