When Words of Hope first began broadcasting in Nepal, the ministry model was simple. Biblical sermons were adapted into radio programs and aired around the country in Nepali.
Those broadcasts strengthened churches, equipped pastors, and introduced listeners to the gospel. But Nepal is home to more than 120 language groups spread across mountains, hills, and plains. While Nepali is widely spoken, many people still speak a different language at home. And for many listeners, the message connects most deeply when it is shared in the language of home, family, prayer, and daily life.
“We started thinking, we need to do something with the local people in their own languages,” says the director of Words of Hope Nepal.
Why Heart Languages Matter
Words of Hope Nepal is now moving toward a more regional ministry model. Instead of producing all content from one central location, local leaders are helping create programs that speak directly to the needs of their own communities.
Some broadcasts focus on family life. Others address education, health, or local concerns. But every program points listeners to the hope found in Christ.
“People need contextually relevant messages,” the director explains. “Context helps people to listen and identify and see that the gospel means something for them.”
That is why heart language ministry matters. The gospel is always good news. But when people hear it in the language they use at home, the message often feels closer, clearer, and more personal.
Local Leaders, Local Follow-Up
This new model also makes it easier for listeners to connect with believers nearby.
Regional coordinators help ensure broadcasts are reaching communities. They answer questions from listeners, encourage local follow-up, and help connect people with churches and ministries in their area.
This is especially important in Nepal, where faith in Christ can come with pressure from family and community. Radio allows people to hear biblical teaching privately, sometimes long before they are ready to visit a church or ask questions openly.
Through local language programs, Words of Hope Nepal is helping bring the gospel into homes and communities where people may have had little opportunity to hear about Jesus in a way they can fully understand.

The Gospel for Every Village
Local programs are already being produced in Maithili and Magar, and additional language programs are in development.
For the director of Words of Hope Nepal, the goal is not simply to expand a radio network. The goal is for every person in Nepal to have the opportunity to hear the gospel and respond.
“My vision is that every province, every pocket, every village in Nepal will have the opportunity to hear the gospel in their own heart language,” he says.
The path forward will require new leaders, new language programs, and continued prayer. But the work is moving forward one faithful step at a time.
“I don’t always have a clear picture of everything that’s going to happen,” he says. “But I’m accomplishing the work that God has given me one step at a time.”
And with each step, the gospel is being brought a little closer to home.

Your support helps equip indigenous Christian leaders to share the hope of the gospel in the heart languages of unreached people. In Nepal, that means training local leaders, producing radio programs in more languages, and helping listeners connect with believers near them.
Pray for Words of Hope Nepal as new language programs are developed. Ask God to raise up faithful leaders, open doors for the gospel, and bring the hope of Christ into every village, every home, and every heart language.
