Read: Revelation 21:1-14
I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (v. 2)
Have you ever described some place or event as being “like heaven on earth”? Maybe it was being out in the wonder of God’s creation. Maybe it was an outstanding concert. Or maybe it was a church service where you experienced the presence of God in a special, powerful way.
These kinds of experiences are just a hint of what we who believe in Jesus will experience when heaven does come down to earth!
One of the new things about the new heaven is its location. Revelation 21 points us to a day when heaven will come down to earth. Heaven and earth will be one! There is a lot of mystery about just how this will be, but in Revelation 21, the author of the book, the apostle John, “saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God” (v. 2), which assures us that God will dwell with his people. “He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God” (v. 3). God himself will be with us for all eternity!
Just as Jesus came to earth to demonstrate God’s great love for us (John 3:16), now God, with all the glory of the new Jerusalem, will come to earth as another evidence of his love. Heaven on earth!
As you pray, take time to thank God for his great love and to bask in that love.
