Read: Revelation 22:1-17
They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. (v. 4)
Are you feeling weary today? Are you tired of the tedium in your life? Are you discouraged by a lack of progress, and do you wonder if it’s worth it to continue? Perhaps it’s time for a look at what the future holds for believers who persevere in the faith.
Here in the Bible’s last chapter, Revelation 22, we see a vision of the New Jerusalem and those who dwell there. The apostle John describes a beautiful city in which the river of life flows from the throne of God and of the Lamb. Like the Paradise of Eden, the tree of life flourishes there. God’s children also flourish, for they have God in their midst. They see his face, and there is no need for external light in the city, because the Lord God is the light. These blessed believers will reign forever with their God.
Jesus tells his people that this will be their future, and he is returning soon. Those who persevere will partake of the tree of life and the water of life. The invitation is extended to all: “Let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price” (v. 17).
What a future God has planned for his people! Restoration, healing, communion with God and his people. And this is just a glimpse of what’s waiting for us as we persevere in the faith. Let this be your encouragement today.
As you pray, thank God for the future plans that he has for us—plans that extend into eternity.
