Weapons of a Freedom Fighter

Read: Ephesians 6:10-20

Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. (v. 11 NLT)

The apostle Paul had fought many battles: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual. As a spiritual leader, he tells us that in every serious battle, a fighter needs defensive and offensive weapons to ensure safety and to achieve victory. Paul encourages us to “put on the whole armor of God” (v. 11) as a defensive weapon to guard ourselves against the arrows of the enemy.

Peter, another freedom fighter and fellow apostle, warns us, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). The sweetest target for the devil is your head, the center of intellect and reason. Satan knows that if he keeps you ignorant about Scripture, he has got you; when you don’t read the Bible, Satan has weakened you, and you are defenseless.

There are so many people who are mentally caged. As freedom fighters, we need to firmly and prayerfully put on our defensive weapons. Fasten the belt of truth; put on the breastplate of righteousness (Eph. 6:14). Make your feet ready with the gospel of peace (v. 15). Use the shield of faith to protect yourself (v. 16). Use the helmet of salvation to shield you from worldly deception, and pick up the sword of the Spirit, the word of God (v. 17). And always pray (vv. 18-20). —Rev. As you pray, dress in the armor of God, filled with the Spirit, to protect you against the attacks of the enemies.
