Read: Romans 12
Live in harmony with one another. (v. 16)
Most of us have experienced times where we thought, Can’t we all just get along? Pride, greed, and a self-focused attitude tempt us to think we are right or better than others. We complain, blame, or raise our voices to those with whom we disagree.
In Romans 12:14-16, we find some powerful biblical commands that are challenging to live out including:
“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.” (v. 14)
“Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” (v. 15)
“Live in harmony with one another.” (v. 16)
“Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.” (v. 16)
“Never be wise in your own sight.” (v. 16)
Take time today to read each of these verses again. Prayerfully consider what needs to change in your attitude and actions, especially with those you have a difficult time getting along with. What are some practical steps you can take with God’s help towards family members, co-workers, neighbors, classmates, or friends?
If your differences are with other believers, ponder how the lack of harmony may be a negative witness to those who are watching. If you are a parent and your disunity is with your spouse, consider the young eyes and ears taking it in. With God’s help, we can live in harmony with others.
As you pray, pray for someone you are in conflict with and ask God to show you how to act.
