New Languages in Nepal

Words of Hope Nepal is expanding to include two new language programs, Magar and Maithili, in order to better serve the diverse communities in the region. Many Nepali people prefer to speak their local languages, even though they understand Nepali. Recognizing the importance of communicating in heart languages, the team has begun preparing and praying for the launch of radio programs into smaller languages in Nepal.

The team picked new languages based on several criteria: the availability of Bible translations in these languages, openness to the gospel, church growth, and the presence of theologically trained leaders who can address rising issues of Christian cults and false teachings.

The new Magar language program will be produced by a pastor recording from his home. The program will be broadcast twice a week, and will aim to reach the indigenous Magar community, one of Nepal’s oldest tribes, who represent 3% of the population.

The new Maithili language program will be produced by a local village teacher. The Maithili language is spoken by over 11% of Nepali people.

Christ Alone

With two children to support, Bahati returned to her family’s home. She lived peacefully there for a time, but one day she heard a radio program that would change everything.
