Read: Revelation 21
He carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain. (v. 10)
“Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD?” (Ps. 24:3). The question echoes throughout the Bible. And since the fall, it has been the grand sweep of God’s story—through mountains and mini Edens—to restore all creation to his thundering, mountaintop presence.
One of the last chapters of the Bible gives us a beautiful vision of that coming day. “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth” (Rev. 21:1), the apostle John writes, echoing Isaiah’s glorious prophecy of a new Jerusalem in which vineyards will be full and evergreen, and wolves shall graze even with the lambs on the holy mountain of God (Isaiah 65). And then comes the ringing proclamation from the throne of heaven: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man” (Rev. 21:3).
It is done! The end is secured! For now, we live in between, but the promise for those who are in Christ is that Eden will one day return, we will be resurrected like Jesus was, and there will be no need for thin spaces or divine meetings upon a mountain, because God himself will dwell tangibly among us. So while we wait, praying and hoping, weeping and laughing, let’s be who God has called us to be: mountains of meeting where those around us might encounter the God who stands above the shoulders of time and declares, “Behold, I am making all things new” (v. 5).
As you pray, give praise to God for the glorious truth that one day, all things will be made new.
