Looking Back and Looking Ahead

Read: Romans 12

Be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (v. 2)

As we conclude this 16-day devotional plan from Romans 12, let’s take a look back. Verses 1 and 2 remind us that those who have been redeemed by the mercy of God should be living sacrifices, not conforming to the world, but seeking to be transformed according to God’s will. That should be a joyful pursuit motivated by gratitude to God and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

We have considered how such transformation should occur within our mind, be evident through humility, unity, and love, and impactful through service and the use of spiritual gifts. We spent three days focusing on verse 12: “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” We also heard God’s Word call us to show hospitality, live in harmony, and pursue good over evil.

As you look at your life, do you see evidence of growth in these areas? As God works in us, there should be signs of maturity in the pursuit of Christlike thoughts, behaviors, attitudes, and actions. I hope that you have been challenged to grow in your faith and service to the Lord through Romans 12. May God equip and empower you to be a living sacrifice who is transforming rather than conforming. May he help you discern his good, acceptable, and perfect will.

As you pray, reflect on this chapter and ask God to help you live it out.
