If we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. (v. 5).
What do you know about the resurrection? What about being united with Jesus Christ? Notice that this verse speaks of being united with Christ in his death as something that has already happened. But when we speak of the resurrection, it’s in the future. Therefore, this verse speaks of our resurrection as a promise. What’s the basis on which this promise is given? Is this a true and reliable promise? In our life experience, we hear promises from many people, but they may not keep them. Is the promise of the resurrection just a beautiful lie?
The apostle Paul was so convinced of this promise that he devoted himself to the cause of preaching the gospel until the end of his life and even died for the cause. He was once a fierce opponent of the gospel and had waged war against Christ and his followers. But on the road to Damascus, he experienced the most extraordinary event of his life. He saw the risen Christ (Acts 9:1-18). Paul’s transformation after meeting the risen Jesus astonished all sides, Jews and Gentiles alike.
To Paul, our union with Christ is the basis of the promise of our resurrection (1 Cor. 15:21-22). Dear friend, are you united with Christ? If not, take time to call out to God and invite his resurrection work in you.
As you pray, trust in God’s promises as a sure and steadfast anchor for your soul (Heb. 6:19).
