Look at the birds of the air. (v. 26)
If you’ve ever been on a flight, you may be familiar with the experience of turbulence. It’s a sensation where the floor shakes and the air feels tense, as passengers collectively hold their breath. At that tense moment, thousands of feet up in the sky, everyone waits for their smooth ride to return.
At times, the world can feel as uncertain and scary as a flight with constant turbulence, thrusting us about without any true sign of stopping, leaving us holding our breath. Jesus reminds us that God knows just what we need and provides food and clothing for us: “Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all” (v. 32).
Do you know that God is the great pilot of your life? He is directing your path; in fact, he’s planned it out better than you could ever imagine. Even as we live and breathe in this world filled with darkness, God desires to provide much more than even your basic needs—God meets your deepest needs by inviting you to experience the kingdom of God and his righteousness (v. 33).
When our flights get bumpy, we can come to our heavenly Father in prayer and trust he will provide exactly what we need. His care for us is all around, if we look for it. It surrounds the soaring birds of the air (v. 26) and is woven in the lilies and grasses of the fields (vv. 28-30). How differently we can live when we rest in the Lord’s abiding care for us.
