The Early Season

Read: Psalm 139:13-18

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. (v. 14)

When each of our children was born, I found joy that the sound of my voice brought comfort to them. It was a regular reminder of the miracle God had allowed to happen in me, as he formed and protected them in my womb. The timbre of my voice became the familiar sound of nearness that our child longed for, similar to how we long for God’s nearness throughout our lives.

Perhaps the early days of your life, childhood, the teen years and even your early 20s, were full and blessed, and you moved through them with relative ease. Or maybe you’ve worked hard to process, or even bury, the memories of what you experienced when you were young.

Whether or not you knew it then, God saw you and he loved you. He has had a plan for your whole life well before you were conceived. As verse 16 of the text tells us, “In your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me.” God was always near, even if others were not.

The same God who made us is the one who asks us to have trusting, childlike faith, even as adults. If you’ve repented of your sins and accepted the gift of eternal life that Jesus won for you, live joyfully as a child of God! If you’ve yet to give your life to Christ, know that he’s worthy of your unwavering trust. He’s always loved you!

As you pray, ask God to help you exercise childlike faith.
