Read: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. (v. 11)
Microsleep is when a person suddenly falls asleep for a few seconds. This is very dangerous when it happens while driving. There have been many cases of fatal accidents caused by microsleep. Many people underestimate drowsiness, which is why there are many warning signs at rest areas for long-distance drivers.
Today’s Bible reading reminds us of the coming of the day of the Lord, which is unknown. The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. As children of light, we should stay awake and be aware of microsleep in our spiritual lives, falling into small (and larger) lapses of sin. As children of light, we should live as in the daytime, staying awake and striving for the life of faith. As Paul advised, “Let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation” (v. 8).
Let us wake up from our slumber and live awake in spiritual life in the Lord. Remember the words of Jesus, “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matt. 26:41). Wake up from laziness in ministry, do not withdraw from fellowship, and keep away from sin. Wake up and stay in the spiritual life of light, and no longer live in the deeds of darkness. —Daniel Kristanto Gunawan
As you pray, ask God to strengthen you so that you can continue to be vigilant in your faith.
