Read: Lamentations 3:19-27
His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning. (vv. 22-23)
The start of a new year is often a time for reflection, evaluation, and goal setting. Just as God’s mercies are “new every morning” (v. 23), so God’s grace and faithfulness extends into each new year. Many people begin the New Year with resolutions such as losing weight, quitting a bad habit, getting out of debt, spending more time with those they love, or learning a new skill. As we kick off 2025, we will spend the next fifteen days focusing on biblical resolutions. These resolutions reflect actions and habits that are important for living the Christian life.
If you are a follower of Jesus, God wants you to respond to his grace and love by growing in your faith, sharing your faith, and living it out. Don’t choose only one or two of these to address. Seek with God’s help to live each resolution out. In doing so, you will grow closer to God and fulfill the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20) and Great Commandment (22:37-39).
I encourage you, whether you are reading this devotional on your own or with others, to take time after each one to ponder and reflect on specific ways you can implement it. Every day of each new year is an opportunity to grow in your faith and live it out. You can’t change the past, but with God’s help, you can make these biblical resolutions a reality in the year ahead.
As you pray, ask God to help you live out the truth of Scripture in the year ahead.
