Dayak Ngaju

Background

Indonesia is one of the world’s largest and most strategic mission fields, having the greatest Islamic population of any nation on earth. Over 80% of the country’s population of 237 million is Muslim. Made up of over 17,000 islands, Indonesia is the fourth most populous nation in the world.
The island of Kalimantan, where Dayak Ngaju is spoken, is the third largest island in the world. The Dayaks are the native people of Kalimantan. Even among these native Dayaks, there are as many as 80 different languages, as well as a variety of dialects, customs, laws, territories and cultures. The Dayak people were traditionally animist in their beliefs, but many have converted to Christianity. Dayak Ngaju is spoken along the rivers in Central Kalimantan.

Listener Responses

What a surprise for me to listen to the radio programs in the Dayak Ngaju language. I’ve never before heard Christian teachings in Dayaknese. When I hear these programs, I feel that Christianity is close to me, and it is not just a strange, western religion. A lot of Christian radio program are aired in our area, but in the Indonesian language. Only you produce programs in the Dayak Ngaju language, and I really appreciate it. May God bless your ministry.

I moved to Central Kalimantan and had to be treated at the hospital. The nurse always listened to your Christian radio program. Little by little, I came to like the songs. One day I heard a person speaking about the Word of God. The nurse invited me to talk with her and learn who Jesus Christ is. I heard that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who has power to save people from their sin. Please pray for me and my family as we learn how to become a Christian family. I and my whole family were baptized.
