Ann and I just attended the wedding of our son in Orange City, Iowa. July 1 was a quintessential summer celebration: the bride and groom danced against the backdrop of the sunset and made their getaway through twin rows of sparklers waved by friends.
It was a glorious day. One that had been preceded by two decades of prayer. Which got me thinking, prayer really does work like that. Sometimes our prayers can feel like single drops of water falling on an 80 acre field. Day after day, decade after decade, it may seem like nothing is happening. But then one day we see that all of those drops of prayer have become a downpour of renewal that brings answer upon answer.
Each month, we send out a prayer guide and invite you to pray. Though sometimes the ones you are praying for live half a world away and the answers to your prayers may come slowly, I want you to know that God is answering the prayers of his people. Each week brings more confirmation to my email inbox from around the world—God is on the move. I believe your prayers matter—now more than ever. The enemy is not happy with our work, but we will not be shaken.
The verse God has given me this month is from Acts 18:9-10, when God says to Paul, “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.”
And so, I invite you to join me this month in lifting up our brothers and sisters around the world. God has many more who are yet to receive Christ. Let’s keep at it!
