Read: Mark 7:31-37
They were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well.” (v. 37)
What a perfect way to summarize the ministry of Jesus: “He has done all things well.” Unfortunately, it is not that way with us. True, human beings have done amazing things! Buildings like the pyramids of Egypt, the Colosseum in Rome, and the Taj Mahal in India are wonders to behold. Works of art astound us. Inventions like the automobile, the airplane, the telephone, and computers are very impressive. Indeed, we human beings have done many things well.
But we humans are plagued by our problems, errors, mistakes, and yes, our sins. Not a day goes past that there isn’t some scandal, murder, or violence of one kind or another. It seems that instead of doing what the Bible says and our Lord exhibits, namely, loving our neighbor as ourselves, we do exactly the opposite. What a strange mixture of good and bad we human beings are. With compassion we serve meals to the poor and at the same time we abort unborn babies.
There is only one who does all things well. His name is Jesus. He is the divine Son of God who came and lived here on earth as a human being and was like us in all things, except sin. Through his life, death, and resurrection, Jesus did for us what only he could do. He leads us by his example of love and compassion and offers for us the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Indeed, he has done all things well!
Prayer: Thank you, Lord Jesus, for doing everything well. Amen.
