Read: Hebrews 1:1-4
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature. (v. 3)
While my husband was away for a couple of weeks, I took my two boys with me to visit the church where my husband and I worshiped when we were in seminary. I told the boys this would be one of those places where they wouldn’t know anyone, but a lot of people would know them. Both boys felt right at home and settled comfortably into the children’s programs. Afterward, the teacher said my nine-year-old son had told her that his dad had been gone so long that he almost couldn’t remember what his dad looked like. She told him all he had to do was look in a mirror because he looked exactly like his dad!
God spoke to Moses on a mountain. God sent angels to Mary and Joseph to tell them his plan. Throughout Scripture God sends signs and wonders. I’ve never heard God speak like Moses did. I’ve never had God’s plan unfolded before me like it was for Mary and Joseph. I’ve never been overwhelmed by signs and wonders. But still, I desire to see God, just like my boys desired to see their father.
Hebrews 1 tells us that to know God, all we have to do is look at Jesus. When we read Jesus’ words and the stories about him, we see the very face of God. Next time you wonder what God is like, turn to one of the Gospels and look at Jesus.
