Joshua’s Choice

READ : Joshua 24:11-18

Joshua had led his people for a long time. At this point he calls them together and reminds them of the many times that God had helped them. Then he asks whether they will choose the gods of the people they have defeated (not through their own strength, but through God) or will they choose their God. He makes his choice: “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” What a choice Joshua made! It was a choice he had made many years before. When Moses had sent the spies out, Joshua and Caleb came back trusting the Lord.

When I have a struggle in life, I sit down and remember all the times God was with me. There was a time when I had cancer and He brought healing through good physicians. There was a time when my husband lost his job and we struggled with finances. God was there to guide us. Recently I strained my arm and was in excruciating pain. I was able to lead the music for a large conference by remembering those times and trusting God’s presence. In remembering times when the Lord’s strength saved us, we find courage to say, under all circumstances, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Lord, it would have been enough just to have sent Jesus to us. Thanks for all Your blessings. Amen.
